Top Ten Best Wedding Photographer 2019
My aim has always been to be the best wedding photographer I can be. Hello everyone, and welcome to my new blog for 2020, and what a way to start the year. On Saturday 2nd February I attended my first ever Guild of Photographers Awards Night.
The Guild of Photographers is one of the leading societies in the UK with its members dedicated to enhancing their skills in the art, craft and profession of photography. The Guild runs an Image of the Month Competition, and received around 13,000 entries during 2019, from photographers in the UK and overseas!
I joined the Guild after discussions with many other wedding photographers, who advised me what a great society it was in helping push forward your standards and strive to improve.
Each month, a wedding photographer is able to enter three images taken exclusively at real weddings. Each image is then scored, and the scores from the year are then totalled to determine who is in the Top Ten Wedding Photographers of the Year. The judges can give images either Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze awards, they can be classified or they can get no score.
Throughout the year I had been awarded three Silver Awards and around twenty bronze awards, and so was aware I would be receiving a Guild Of Photographer’s Bar Award for reaching a consistent high level of photography throughout the year. In 2019 around 100 photographers reached this distinction internationally and this was an achievement I was really proud of. The Guild has very demanding standards when judging photographic competitions. The judging is undertaken by a panel of internationally recognised experts from a variety of photographic backgrounds.
Guild Of Photographers Awards Evening
So, come the awards night I donned my dinner suit and attempted to tie my bow tie with the help of several YouTube video’s with little success (next time I will be purchasing a pre-tied one lol). Aware I would be receiving the Bar I was quite excited and it was a real pleasure meeting so many talented and successful photographers from many different genres. I settled in to watch the awards being given out and viewing the stunning images that won in all the different categories and was very impressed with such high standards of work.
The Results are in
So came the time for the Top Ten Wedding Photographers of 2019. On the night the top ten were announced in no particular order. A few familiar names were announced, photographers I have looked up to and who’s images have been such an inspiration for me. Then, out of the blue, I heard my name. “David Conway”. Surely not! Wow. I was totally taken aback. Walking up and receiving my award from Lesley Thirsk, the Guild Of Photographers Chair, was a real honour.
A day or two later, the full results were published. I managed to come Fifth. FIFTH best Wedding Photographer in an International judged wedding competition!!! I was ecstatic!
So what next. Well, I now have a Bar to reach (if you excuse the pun). I’m excited to bring on 2020 and to continue to develop, improve and hopefully continue to win awards for the images I take for my beautiful brides and dashing grooms.
