LAURA & ALAN | HOLDSWORTH HOUSE | WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
In August 2019 I had the pleasure of providing Laura and Alan’s wedding photography at Holdsworth House. Here is their story of the build up to, and the joy of their magic day.
THE PROPOSAL
Al proposed to me in Cornwall overlooking St Michaels Mount, Cornwall has always been a special place for both of us.
THE VENUE
Holdsworth House offers such rich history, and is a stunning venue for your wedding day. The Jacobean manor dates back to 1633, although there is evidence of a building on the site as far back as 1272.
I asked Laura & Alan how they came to choose Holdsworth House
“We were wanting a venue that was a little bit different and quirky and because of this I had always ruled out hotels. We however booked to go to an open day at Holdsworth House and fell in love with the character, history and grounds, immediately booking our wedding for the following year.”
THE DRESS
I had dreamt of choosing a Wedding Dress from being a very small child, I used to draw what I thought would be my dream dress. I knew I wanted something a little bit different, however I wasn’t very knowledgeable about different designers I just would look at how a dress looked and decided whether I liked it or not. When I walked past the bridal shop Dotty’s in Holmfirth I knew that I wanted to try on dresses from there. I booked an appointment there, but I also had two appointments with other bridal boutiques before the Dotty’s appointment as I was under the impression that this is what you did, I however did not like the dresses I tried on and felt very disappointed. When I went to Dotty’s however this all changed as soon as I walked through the door. I loved all the dresses, loved the boutique and the consultant, I took my mum with me and she felt the same about Dotty’s. After trying on a number of dresses, it came down to two one a fitted dress and the second a more traditional A line dress with a dropped waist line. I had always imagined myself in a Boho style dress however I picked the traditional Pronovias wedding gown as it had POCKETS!
I absolutely love pockets.
THE GROOMSMEN’S SUITS
I had been listening to a few wedding podcasts and they had suggested picking a highstreet brand and then having it professionally tailored. Al picked a Racing Green suit from Suits Direct. Al picked a pocket watch from Walkers Jewellers in Huddersfield and I bought his cufflinks from Aladdin’s Cave in Leeds.
THE WEDDING DAY THEME
I love all things natural so we had a rustic theme with wildflowers, natural colours and tones. I have always loved country, vintage styles therefore I was always drawn to a rustic style…including bunting.
THE FLOWERS
As I mentioned previously, I have always loved wild flowers therefore I search through Pintrest to get an idea of style and colours. My florist was amazing. She was a lady my mum knew called Jill Garner and she was so knowledgeable about flowers and really brought my ideas to life.
THE HAIR & MAKEUP
My hairdresser Abi from Hair Haus did my hair. She was amazing and I loved my hair, she was lovely on the day and really put me at ease. My makeup artist was
Hina.makeupartist101 she used amazing products and my makeup stayed in place all day.
THE PHOTOGRAPHER
David was recommended to us by friends and when we met him we both really liked him and his gorgeous photos. On the day of the wedding he put me at ease in the morning and at times was the voice of reason, as I was a nervous wreck, we had so many comments from guests how friendly and professional he was. We were blown away once we saw the wedding images. Having provided Holdsworth House wedding photography before we were happy his knowledge of the venue would mean we would get great images.
THE CEREMONY
I remember feeling so nervous about walking down the aisle and everybody looking at me, as soon as I saw Al I felt so much calmer and I think I ran down the aisle. The ceremony was so lovely and we both felt so loved in that room. We also had a string quartet that made the ceremony extra special.
THE RECEPTION & EVENING CELEBRATONS
We both said how amazing our wedding day was. I remember looking around the room when we sat down to eat, watching everybody smiling and laughing and just thinking I wanted to freeze time. The day went so fast and I would love to re-live the whole day again.
THE CAKE
I absolutely adored my wildflower cake by White Rose Cake Design, it was perfect in every way and tasted amazing.
THE FIRST DANCE
We chose Everlong by the Foo Fighters, I just remember feeling so happy.
THE BAND
We had a band called The Entertainment Company who were fab, and a DJ that was part of our package with Holdsworth House. They were fantastic and really kept the party going until the late hours
THE WEDDING DAY
We had the most incredible day surrounded by our family and friends, we felt so loved and had so many comments from people on how much they enjoyed the day. All those months of planning just came together. The day was like a whirlwind and one of the best days of our lives.
